Yellowbelly: What type of headshots stand out to you?
Sophie: “I love the shots that are full of character. Interesting faces are my catnip.”
Yellowbelly: What advice do you have for actors that are being seen for US projects? (Are there any obvious differences to auditioning for Uk projects)
Sophie: “My advice is the same be it for US OR UK projects- Make a choice. Find something in the character you’re portraying that you can connect with and have fun!”
Yellowbelly: Do you cast actors you see and work with from workshops?
Sophie: “We cast actors from e.v.e.r.y.w.h.e.r.e. (I once chased a guy around a running track for #ShadowandBone because I loved his look.)”
Yellowbelly: Do you look at actors social media during a casting process?
Sophie: “No we don’t as a general rule of thumb but occasionally we’ll dip our toes in, just to get a sense of a person. We like to ensure we’re working with nice people.”
Yellowbelly: How much input do casting directors have in making final decisions when casting actors?
Sophie: “Ha. We have a surprising amount of sway I guess. Most producers/ Directors/ Showrunners trust our judgement and we work closely with them so our opinion is important.”
