Yellowbelly: How often do you look at actors’ social media following during a casting process?

Tara: “The only time I really look at actors’ social media is when I’m super excited about the fact that they are coming in to audition. I might look at their socials to make sure they aren’t on vacation!”

Yellowbelly: Advice for actors starting out?

Tara: “Try to be patient and don’t compare yourself to others. Remember you’re an artist even if you aren’t being employed as one. Try to find ways to continue to develop your craft – whether that’s in classes, creating your own work or simply gathering with other actors to read and discuss plays.”

Yellowbelly: What’s the most memorable thing an actor has done in an audition?

Tara: “Honestly, actors do memorable things in auditions everyday. They work very hard to prepare audition material, they bring in theiR vulnerability and their full selves. It’s a privilege to witness and be a part of it.”

Yellowbelly: What do you look for in a headshot?

Tara: “I respond most strongly when I feel the spirit of the actor has been captured and conveyed. And it’s always interesting to see which photo actors use to represent them. It’s like they’ve said ‘This is me!’ – that’s really cool.”

Yellowbelly: What’s the best way to get seen for a project if you’re without representation?

Tara: “Go to the open calls. Write a letter (our website has an address) and tell us why you’d like to audition. Direct us to any materials you might have (links, website) so we can get to know you. “
